Licence Requirements for Driving Vans and Minibuses in the UK

In the UK, we do not require any special licence to drive a larger passenger vehicle such as a van, people carrier, minibus or even a double-decker bus, just the normal EU or UK Driving Licence or a recognised International Drivers Permit. A special HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Licence is only required for vehicles with a Maximum Laden Weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes, though we do need a special mark on our normal licence for us to be able to drive between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. In the UK this is the 'C1' mark, automatic for old licences, new licences need the holder to take an additional test.
